Our services are built around the concept of simplicity. The Gospel of Christ isn't complicated and our church services shouldn't be either. Our Sunday services have one goal and that goal is built around four basic principles that come from the early church in the book of Acts 2:42. The singular goal for Sunday is to gather with other born-again believers to worship Jesus and exalt His name and His name alone. To become strengthened through our gathering so that we can go and share the Gospel and make disciples out in the world in our everyday lives.
The four ways that we do this come directly from Acts 2:42:
Being self-devoted to the Apostles teaching (What is written in God's Holy Word)
Being self-devoted to Fellowship
Being self-devoted to the breaking of bread
Being self-devoted to prayer
All of these elements will be present in each home gathering. A typical Sunday service begins with the believers gathering prior to the start of service to share breakfast and food together and to have a time of fellowship, laughter, and sharing. Our worship is simple, led by acoustic guitars and the songs are a mixture of old hymns as well as modern worship songs that are carefully selected that glorify Christ Jesus and not man. The teaching comes directly from God's word as contained in the Holy Bible. We are about seeking truth and the preaching of the full gospel of Christ which includes sin and repentance. During our time of teachings, conversations are not only allowed but encouraged as we read, digest, and discuss God's word together. It's one of the things that we love about house church. We don't have a schedule of events. We don't have a man devised plan. We don't have a dedicated system and we don't just listen to a sermon and leave. We hear God's word spoken and taught and are able to ask questions and share as the Spirit works and directs each one. (1st Corinthians 14:29-31) Each service ends with the taking of Holy Communion as the believers come together to share in the body and the blood of Christ.
Instead of trying to collect bodies to fill seats and build bank accounts, we try to limit each house church to 20 people or less so that those family (adelphos) relationships can form, and we can be productive in not just having another church service but being about the business of our Lord every day.
